What Is the Ontario Autism Program?
The OAP is a provincial program, funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, that provides services and funding to Ontario children and youth on the autism spectrum, up to age 18. To register, your child needs a written ASD diagnosis from a qualified professional. Unlike some programs, OAP registration isn't income-tested — it's about your child's diagnosis and support needs.

As of recent reporting, well over 80,000 children have been registered in the OAP, while only a fraction — reported at under 20,000 in some recent counts — were actually receiving Core Clinical Services funding. Some families who registered years ago report waits exceeding five years between registration and active funding. Registering as early as possible is still the right move, since your position depends entirely on your registration date — we share this only because planning around an unrealistic timeline helps no one.
